After analysing and comparing different environmental frameworks, we chose to follow the framework established by the United Nations: the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). These goals bring together 17 global axes through which we can build a more sustainable and favourable future for all.
What are our SDGs?
By subscribing to this UN framework, we place sustainable development at the heart of our business. In order to contribute to this, we have decided to focus primarily on SDGs 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 13 (Action on Climate Change) and 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goals).
In Europe, 27% of trucks run empty (OECD) and every kilometre has an impact on our environment. As our population and consumption increases, the problem of empty miles is getting worse. We are facing a significant inefficiency problem, and our planet is paying the price.
How can we reduce empty miles?
Favouring delivery rounds, optimising the volume of vehicles in order to avoid leaving them partially full, and grouping deliveries into a single journey will have a significant impact on transport costs and the environment.
In order to reduce our carbon footprint and thus contribute to the fight against climate change, an accurate measurement of CO2 emissions will be the first element of our sustainable strategy. We aim to quantify the pollution flows of a delivery and identify the levers to reduce them.
How can we measure our emissions?
We will also collect and estimate the CO2 emissions of our delivery partners during their journeys. We also want to set up a system for combining deliveries in the same area to reduce the carbon impact of the journeys. The idea is also to pass this information on to the consumer to raise awareness.
Allowing a large network of independent delivery staff to have access to a reliable business and service at Shippr is a guarantee of sustainability. This includes prosperous working conditions, the prospect of development in their activity as well as a fair remuneration.
How to implement an indexed fair price?
For more fairness in the delivery missions offered to our delivery partners, a fair price that takes into account the vehicle, the distance and the time is gradually being deployed. We are also working towards ever greater price transparency where every detail will be explained in the application.
In addition to the sustainable projects we work on for our clients and partners, we are convinced that we must also make a difference on a daily basis. We believe that this is a collective effort that must also be undertaken internally.
How do we build this green collective?
Through our internal Shippr Green Commando, we want this dynamic core to push our green ambitions into concrete action. This team's mission is to raise awareness and monitor our internal environmental practices in order to instil a more responsible way of life.
